Have we forgotten?

10 Dec Have we forgotten?

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.  But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Romans 5.6,8

“Secular history concentrates on wars, battles and peace-treaties, followed by yet more wars, battles and peace-treaties.  The Bible concentrates rather on the war between good and evil, on the decisive victory won by Jesus Christ over the powers of darkness, on the peace-treaty ratified by His blood, and on the sovereign proclamation of an amnesty for all rebels who will repent and believe.”

For just a moment — juxtapose the familiar sounds and sites of “Joy to the World” and beautifully decorated streets, homes and malls with the reality of that first Christmas.

Have we forgotten?

God sent his son into a dangerous and chaotic world of Roman rule, where His life was immediately threatened and his family forced to run to Egypt for refuge. Bethlehem was a cruel place of carnage, as Herod used his power to kill innocent babies. That’s why Jesus was such good news, announced first to the shepherds. Some things never change. Still today violent men use their power to inflict death and destruction on the innocent.

Have we forgotten?

Herod didn’t win in the end. Jesus did – and today sends His Church into a dangerous and chaotic world to announce that “Jesus” has come for them too.

  1. Jesus, as we see the carnage in Syria that has caused millions to flee – pry us out of our selfish stupor to join you on the front lines of this refugee trail – to be your hands and feet, with a voice that proclaims that light, joy and salvation has come for them too. Send us quickly Lord by the tens of thousands. Send us through our going, our prayers and our giving. Please visit www.thesyriancircle.com/act for more information.
  2. Please, Lord – we’re asking that a loud cry would come from the hearts of 100’s of 1,000’s of refugees this month to ask for themselves: “What is true?” and “Show us who you really are.” We know you will be faithful to reveal yourself. Thank you!
