24 May Christian Witness
first a bit of
For most coming from Muslim countries, nations and religion are seen together. Greece is a Christian country. Germany is a Christian country. Throughout Europe there has been a collective “Christian witness” towards refugees—from shows of care, help and welcome. However, there have also been the opposite.
“We are not terrorist[s]. Please open the borders.” –a sign held by a refugee camped alongside barbed wire fences at the Greek-Macedonian border
This is such a complex issue – there is no easy answer. Yet our action (or inaction) reflect who we are like a mirror held up to reveal our character, our nations, our faith.
“God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Pray that the Church worldwide shows up to help in Greece, the Balkans, Germany and anywhere refugees are pooling. Pray for government processes to best aid and/or accommodate the volumes of people. Pray that refugees themselves figure out how to be part of the solution for a sustainable future.
Thank you for your faithful prayers!
